A Munichwine aged in a Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel for 18 months.
This one has a base of mixed Munich malts (some pale, some darker, some Bestmalz, some from Meccagrade in Oregon). A lengthy boil and cool ferment produced a smooth and sweet base, perfectly complimenting the bourbon character from the barrel.
Munichwine is a newer substyle of barleywine pioneered by folks like Private Press Brewing and Cellarmaker in California. It's essentially a variation using Munich malt in the place of a base malt like Marris Otter. Munich malt is kilned a bit warmer and contributes to a base full of bready, mildly toasty malt character. Perfect compliment to some barrel-aging!
