A wild ale with foraged sloeberries, aged in port and red wine barrels.
Aoltbeer, also known as Münstersch Alt, is the historic sour beer of the city of Münster, Westphalia. It is a mixed-fermented, barrel-aged beer with a vinous character.
The sourness comes from Kemker's own house culture of wild yeasts and lactic acid bacteria. A relationship to Belgian Geuze and Berliner Weisse cannot be denied.
This Aoltbeer with foraged sloeberries matured on average for 18 months in Port and red wine barrels. In this time, the beer developed its bold and oxidative character full of dark fruits and muscovado. Botled in August 2022, 900 bottles.
